Penang To Attract Direct Flights

In its bid to attract more direct flights, the Penang State Government has offered to pay USD10 or RM37 per passenger to all airlines that want to operate direct flights between Penang and Seoul, Yangon and Bandung.
Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has proposed this incentive to five airlines namely AirAsia, Malaysia Airlines, Firefly, Malindo Air and Korean Air.

There is no response from any of them yet as the airlines would need some time to plan for the proposed direct routes.

The money for the incentive will come from the accumulated RM6.5 million hotel room fee collection in a bid to increase the number of flights and tourist arrivals in Penang.

What a creative idea to attract visitors to the island! For every RM37, the state will definitely get back far more than that. A plate of Char Koay Teow at Lorong Selamat already cost RM9! Visitors will try all the hawker food that Penang has to offer not to mention paying for accommodation and shopping.
