Gossip Penang: PR Is Dead But Manifesto Lives

GEORGE TOWN, June 18 — Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng today said sole PAS representative Datuk Mohd Salleh Man remained part of the state government despite DAP’s declaration of Pakatan Rakyat’s death.

Lim said it was decided in a meeting yesterday evening that Mohd Salleh would stay as part of the administration.

“The Penang PR state government is no more but he is now part of the Penang state government,” Lim said in a press conference at his office today.

He said the decision by the state to reject PAS’s decision to sever ties with DAP and accept Salleh as part of the state administration was unanimously agreed by the 30 PR state assemblyman yesterday evening.

“The meeting was held yesterday evening, why don’t you ask him?” Lim replied when asked about the mechanics of a PAS representative being part of the administration when the administration had rejected his party’s motion to cut ties with DAP.

The state government, which was known as a PR controlled state when it won the state back in 2008 and retained it in 2013, is now led by DAP and PKR.

PR is not an official entity, however, as it was never registered as such.

Lim pointed out that they had retained the state under the PR 2013 manifesto during the general election, so they will now run the state based on the manifesto.

“PR is dead, dead... but the manifesto still lives so we are bound by the manifesto,” he said, adding that the manifesto is now the state’s guided mandate.

Lim then criticised those attacking DAP for causing the disintegration of PR, and pointed out that it was PAS that severed ties with his party.

Mohd Salleh could not be contacted for comments.
