US-based audio equipment system manufacturer Bose Corporation will
make the existing and future generation of the company’s top-selling
products such as the Wave music system and Soundlink wireless mobile
speakers at its new production facility in Batu Kawan, south Seberang
Prai which was recently completed.
Bose vice-president Bryan Fontaine said the Wave and Soundlink served respectively the home theatre and the portable audio device market
segments.
Penang state government is expecting the transfer of technology for these products into
the state.
The Bose’s Batu Kawan plant has a big role to play as it will serve its customers in Australia, China, India, Japan, the UAE, and other ASEAN countries.
Headquartered in Massachusetts, Bose was founded by Dr Amar G. Bose, a
professor of electrical engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of
Technology (MIT).
His graduate research at MIT led to the development of new, patented
technologies, and at MIT’s encouragement, he founded his own company
based on those patents.
The company, which generates yearly US$2.5bil revenue and employing
over 9,000 workers worldwide, has manufacturing facilities in the US,
Mexico, and Ireland.
Its futuristic and sleek facade blends in well with the context of the area which is earmarked to be the next growth region of Penang.
